The Best Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies From Scratch

These homemade chocolate chip cookies are soft, chewy, buttery, and loaded with chocolate chips. Made from scratch with simple ingredients, they're an easy dessert everyone will love.

Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2.5 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup brown sugar firmly packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 300℉.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
  3. In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine sugars at medium speed.
  4. Add butter and mix to form a grainy paste, scraping down the sides as needed.
  5. Add egg and vanilla extract. Mix at medium speed until blended. Do not over-mix-.
  6. Add the flour mixture and chocolate chips, and blend at low speed until fully combined. Do not over-mix.
  7. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto a prepared cookie sheet, 2 inches apart.
  8. Back 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Transfer cookies immediately to a cool surface with a spatula.

Notes

Scoop heaping tablespoons of dough onto the prepared cookie sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each one. The cookies will spread as they bake, so giving them plenty of room helps keep them from running together.
